what is the best place for downhill skiing and snowboarding in Finland?
This new year we (about 6 people) are planning to visit Finland for skiing and snowboarding. Can you suggest any winter resort at Lake district or Helsinki region - we are interested in cottage rent - for 5-6 days. Can you provide me with link to good resorts that are nearby hill?
our start point is Saint-petersburg, russia, we gonna travel by car - so suggested places near to arctic circle seems to be nice - but too far from saint-petersburg
- probably other suggestions
I wouldn't recommend you to go skiing near Helsinki or the Lake district (I assume you meant eastern Finland) by new year, since it's not 100% sure that there will be snow. Or of course they have this fake snow that they shoot on the hills if there's no natural snow, but skiing on natural snow is much better than on fake.
So I would recommend you to go near Lapland, or even in Lapland, if you want. Levi, Ruka and Saariselkä are some of the best skiing places we have here in Finland. Saariselkä especially because you can witness the Sami culture there.

Enjoy your new year.

I'm from Finland.
ruka is a good resort infact they have just opened their 1st run this weekend just gone. The downside is that the runs are generally small, but they are very wide so if you have beginners going with you it will be fine. Also the life ques are minimal.
The temps vary alot so take extra clothing we had -32 for most of the week when i went in jan this was to cold even with 4 layers of clothing but i did get told we were quite unlucky, but i have been told this happens quite abit in finland, and levi had -40.
